Fast forward to today. We are tethered to our smartphones and tablets, and we couldn’t imagine our lives without constant access to data. Airvana has played a key role in making this happen. Our first products were 3G EV-DO base stations and radio network controllers for macro cell mobile broadband services. In 2004 Verizon Wireless and Sprint adopted our platforms, and today over 90 mobile network operators worldwide are using them.
Even as our macro mobile broadband business was taking off, we recognized that the model of delivering service through outdoor cell towers would not keep pace with demand for mobile data. In 2006 we began small cell – or femtocell – development. We were a founding member of the Femto Forum (now the Small Cell Forum) and commenced commercial small cell shipments in 2010. As of 2015 Airvana has shipped over a million and a half small cells, and is consistently ranked among the top small cell vendors by leading industry research firms.
In 2014, we sold our macro cell EV-DO business to Ericsson in order to focus exclusively on small cells. Our product lines now include:
Enterprise LTE Small Cells: OneCell™, a revolutionary Cloud RAN enterprise LTE small cell system
Small-medium business and consumer small cells including the S1000 LTE and dual-band Wi-Fi small cell.
Small Cell Management & SON systems: Airvana Device Management System (DMS) and Small Cell Analytics (SCAN) service, which enable support for massive small cell deployments.
Airvana’s headquarters are in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, USA. The company has development centers in Chelmsford and in Bangalore, India. We take quality and environmental responsibility seriously, so we are ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified.
Now Even Stronger
Airvana became part of CommScope, a global provider of connectivity and essential infrastructure solutions for communications networks and leader in providing indoor wireless coverage and capacity. The combination of the companies creates a broad in-building wireless product portfolio, with CommScope’s vast experience in deploying in-building solutions in many of the world’s top venues enhanced by Airvana’s track record in developing innovative base station and small cell solutions.
