We’re always on the lookout for passionate engineers. We are also entering a period of rapid expansion and placing significant bets on our existing product offerings and working to define new ones. We need your help designing and building the systems and infrastructure that will take us to the next level. We are looking for pragmatic programmers who can not only help us execute in building our application, but also have a real say in the technological direction that it goes.
Background:
• 2+ years experience building projects on the web
• Experience with our front-end technology stack and development tools:
• Javascript (AngularJS or React preferred, but open to experience in other frameworks, e.g. Ember, Backbone).
• CSS / SCSS (Understand how to style components beyond what Bootstrap gives you)
• HTML
• Git
• Familiarity in working with backend REST APIs
• Strong sense of good design and UX sensibility
• Demonstrable understanding of good architectural design principles
• Experience with responsive web design
• Experience with writing unit and end-to-end tests
• Basic understanding of performance considerations on the web
• Passion and appreciation for building UIs
• A strong understanding of web fundamentals, including awareness of cross-browser compatibility issues
• Desire to learn
Front-end tech stack
• Languages/Technologies: JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3
• JS Libraries: jQuery, Angular JS
Back-end tech stack
• Java, JDK 1.8
• RESTful / JSON web API service layer, documented using Swagger
• Multiple Apache modules, including: ServiceMix, CXF (JAX-RS),
• Maven 3.x, continuous integration through Jenkins and Docker
Engineering Process
Our team manages all work through user stories. Every two weeks we go through the backlog to build a list of stories that we will tackle over the next two weeks. We meet as a team to go through each story to estimate its and to build up a list of tasks needed to complete it. Often we realize more design work is needed, so we will create tasks to define interfaces, draw up sequence diagrams, or class hierarchies as needed. The process is very democratic, or more precisely – meritocratic. We will implement the best approach we can come up with together, not a design mandate from the top-down. We tackle 10 stories or so each sprint, with 3-5 tasks under each one, so there are lots of opportunities to get involved.

The Interview
Following an initial phone screen to get to know you, the face to face interview(s) will involve speaking with the people you would be working with (engineering, product management, and UX). Some whiteboard work? A little, but since this is a development position, the interview will actually involve coding.
